Hello!

So excited! My mom is in town! We sat and knit together and we are making an Afghan blanket together. We are each doing squares and then we are going to put the squares together to make one big blanket! I am also taking the opportunity to learn new patterns and stitches. Here is a picture of my square which is Little Shell Pattern.

Hello!

I found some treasure this week!
Right before my son was born my mom began knitting a sweater for me using what you see in the picture. Things got hectic when my son was born and they were put aside. After moving I thought they were lost. So now I'm going through boxes to move once again, 4 years later, and I found them! An awesome book great needles and really nice huge ball of yarn. Yay! Thanks Mom!

Going Yarn Bonkers

Hello!

Went to Michael's arts and craft store today with my kids. We went a little bonkers with buying yarn. My son is very into colors and  kept telling me to get this color and that one, hahaha.

I love when Michaels has sales like 4 for $10 or $0.99!
I'm going to enjoy using up all this yarn.

Cowls

Hello!

I've been knitting these past few days with thick, bulky yarn and big knitting needles. The largest needles I have are size 15. I can't wait to be able to try larger ones.

So here are 3 cowls that  made. I didn't follow any pattern. They are not finished yet. I have to find buttons and sew in the stragglers. When they are fully finish I will post better pictures.

The Long Project: Vinny V

Hello!

This is one long project!
An update on the Vinny V WIP (work in progress)
So I knitted and attached the ears and eye patch. I snapped on the safety eyes. Cut and started to sew the mouth but haven't finished yet. Sewed the arms on. Still have to finish sewing the mouth, stuff the head/body and sew it closed and then attach the legs. Almost there! The pattern I'm using is from the book by Rebecca Danger called "Knit a Monster Nursery" (click to link to amazon.com)

Here are some pics:

Toddler Girl Hat

Hello!
The baby bear hat that I made was so simple that I decided to make a hat for my daughter, since the dress didn't work out.

This was quite fast to make. I used the same pattern for the baby bear hat but made a flower instead.

Continuing the Vinny V Monster

Hello!

I've started knitting the legs to Vinny V. I am knitting both at once like I did for the arms. It's so much faster!
Knitting from one leg to the other flows well. The only thing to keep in mind is the two working yarns. If you're not careful they will get tangled.

The marker in the middle is row 30.

The Toddler Dress Unraveled

Hello

I knit past where I had to stop. I tried backing up but I didn't pick up the stitches properly. When I tried fixing that it got too frustrating and I decided to unravel the whole thing. :(
Here are the pictures

Slight update

Hello!

I haven't posted anything in a few days. I've been working on about 4 projects at once but haven't really finished any. I still want to record video but I have to get the camera to work with my computer. Everything is moving a little slow but I should have a few pics up later or tomorrow.

I have gotten a web page up! RuthiesYarnBoutique.com

Knitting Both Arms at Once

For a while I've been knitting the body of Vinny V from the pattern in Knit a Monster Nursery by Rebecca Danger (starting on page 69). I finally finished it!

Now I began working on the arms. I tried something new though. I am knitting both at the same time, and oh man it's awesome! I never did this before.

I began by winding 2 separate yarn balls with a ball winder.
I cast on the 12 stitches for each arm onto 2 separate double pointed needles.

The needle in my hand is a circular needle.

Transfer from the double pointed needle as if slipping a stitch.

Make the magic loop. Divide the stitches in half. At the half point pull the cable through. Make sure the working yarn is on the back needle.

For the second set of cast on stitches, you will be working from the halfway point.

On the back needle that has the working yarn you will place the new half with the new working yarn

Flip the double pointed needle so you can work from the middle and slip the rest onto the front needle of the circular needle.

Both on the circular neeldes

Pull the back needle out to your right so that the stitches wind upon the cable. But don't pull too hard! You need a loop to be coming out the left side of the stitches.

This is after knitting the front stitches of one of the arms.

This is afer knitting the front of both sets.

The needle that the stitches came off of, the one that was in your left hand, push it through the back stitches, turn the work and begin knitting again. Keep in mind not to tangle the two working yarns.

Video coming soon, stay tuned... :)
I didn't make the video with these pictures because this was the very first time trying this.

This method could probably be used for socks, booties and anything that calls for "make 2" (or more). I will be trying out different patterns soon.
